Five years after he began photographing his fellow citizens for the monumental Faces of Reading: 1000 Portraits of a City exhibition, historian/photographer John Pankratz is revisiting those faces, and once again documenting the evolution of our diverse community. Over the next year-and-a-half and in a variety of venues throughout Berks County, John will re-photograph as many of his earlier sitters as possible – depicting how they and he and Reading have changed. He will also be adding fresh faces to the mix.
How have you changed, and how has Reading changed over the past five years? John and Albright honors student, Sarah Bruno, will be asking these questions during hundreds of 5-minute sittings. Sarah will then transform responses to these questions into short, vivid poems. The results of their joint efforts will be a photographic/poetic portrait of the community that will be at once deeply personal and broadly shared.
A sitting is completely free, and participants in Faces of Reading Revisited will have access to the electronic file of their portrait and be able to order low cost prints. They will also feel pride in being represented in this collective portrait.
